CONRAD CHALLENGE NIGERIA 2023/2024: DOWEN COLLEGE TEAMS QUALIFY FOR THE FINALS

Dowen College Lagos presented three teams for Conrad Challenge Nigeria 2023/2024 like the school did last academic session. All the three teams have qualified again for the finals of the challenge. The school’s three teams are Team ACE, Team SAE and Team CHE. Each of the teams is now one step to NASA Space Center in the US for the global finals of the challenge. 

Team ACE is working on eradication of alcohol-induced cancer. The team creates a mobile app which enlightens the users on the carcinogenic nature of alcoholic drinks. The app also contains rehabilitation programme for alcohol drinkers, alternative sources of income for brewery workers and palliative care for cancer patients.

The team is made up of the following intellectual giants: Oluwanifemi Adebara (leader), Abagun Busayo, Munachimso Owube, Tolulope Doherty and Ogunjobi Muizz. Below is the video clip for the team’s semifinals of the challenge.

 

Team SAE is working on eradication of smoking addiction. Similarly, this team creates a mobile app which enlightens the users on the health problems associated with smoking. The app also contains rehabilitation programme for smokers and alternative sources of income for tobacco farmers.

Team SAE also consists of another set of intellectual giants: Oluwaseyifunmi Olarewaju (leader), Chibuikem Nwofor, Temilayo Awotoye, Sameerah Lawan and Sadiq Kamaldeen. Below is the video clip for the team’s semifinals of the challenge.

 

The third team which is Team CHE is working on getting clean and healthy environments all over the world. Team CHE also creates an app that gives awareness on the benefits of having our environments clean and healthy at all times and the dangers associated with unclean environments.

Team CHE consists of the following visionary intellectuals: Olubitan Korede (leader), Kosisochukwu Nwobodo, Ogunmoroti Kayode, Awe David and Afolabi Onabanjo. Below is the video clip for the team’s semifinals of the challenge.

 

Every member of each of the teams is given scholarship to study at Clarkson university New York, Menlo College USA or Lewis and Clark College also in the US. Clarkson university offers $60,000 scholarship per student, Menlo College offers $80,000 scholarship per student while Lewis and Clark College also offers $60,000 scholarship per student.

Mr Olaitan Shakiru, the teams’ coach, is not only an educator but also the guiding force behind the teams’ projects. As the Physics and Mathematics Teacher at Dowen College Lagos, he brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to propel the teams towards success.
