THE BEARDED VULTURE: SENIOR WASTE MANAGER OF THE ECOSYSTEM

The bearded vulture is known for eating bones. Its stomach acid pH value is nearly zero. The stomach acid is extremely acidic. It is more than 100 times stronger than the acid in human stomach. Large bones are dissolved and digested within 24 hours. The extreme acidity also helps them neutralise the toxins in their decaying meals like other vultures.

Like other vultures, they act as nature’s garbage disposal. They help clean the environment of carcasses and diseases. This keeps other species healthy.
